| An
instrument driver is the first step to automating the use of an instrument,
making it easier for an operator to use a complex instrument or enabling
remote operation of the instrument.
It is a set of software modules that communicate with the instrument’s command set via a communication means such as RS232, RS485, etc by translating high level commands from the PC to instrument-readable commands. A driver provides you with
a well-documented, straightforward means of controlling the instrument
without having to understand the low-level programming commands for the
instrument. Furthermore, drivers enable you to connect to and control
an instrument via any standard communications method and using any software
programming language. |
