New chair of AS-Interface Expert Alliance

(22 November 2007)

Yesterday, Sigmapi Systems' Technical Director, Peter Cheetham became Chairman of the AS-Interface Expert Alliance. Geoff Hodgkinson, who has been chairman for many years had decided to step down because of other commitments. The committee voted for Peter to take the reins.

When asked how Peter felt about his new role he said, "I am truly honoured that my fellow Alliance members voted for me to become the new voice of AS-Interface in the UK. Geoff has done a marvellous job in making AS-Interface so visible and increasing its popularity. I am a staunch supporter of this technology and the benefits it can bring and, over the next year, I will work to take its popularity in the UK to a new high. But, I also wish to promote education and training in AS-Interface and AS-i Safety at Work so that these technologies are used and applied correctly. I know the AS-Interface Expert Alliance has a huge part to play in this and I am looking forward to working with Alliance members to achieve these aims."

Congratulations to our new Certified AS-Interface Engineers!

(22 November 2007)

Another two of our engineers, Rob Harrison and Mike Faulkner, have completed their certified training at Manchester Metropolitan University and become our latest Certified AS-Interface Engineers.

We are great supporters of AS-Interface here at Sigmapi Systems but we feel strongly that engineers should be trained to use the technology correctly. We've come across too many projects that have gone horribly wrong and AS-Interface has been blamed when, in fact, it has been incorrectly designed or installed by people who don't understand the technology.

Sigmapi Systems represents the ASi Expert Alliance at the BARA Machine Safety Conference

(21 June 2007)

The British Automation and Robotics Association (BARA) held its Machine Safety Conference at Bletchley Park on 21 June and Sigmapi Systems were there to represent the AS-Interface Expert Alliance. Our Technical Director, Peter Cheetham presented a paper entitled "For safety at work, use Safety at Work" which highlighted just how prolific and ubiquitous AS-Interface has become. The AS-Interface Safe market alone has sold in excess of 350,000 AS-Interface Safe units functioning in some 50,000 safety networks. This means that AS-Interface has overtaken most of its competitors and continues to grow as more people realise the benefits of using it.

Sigmapi Systems at ASi-tech 2007 (22 May 2007)

As usual, we were invited to speak at ASi-tech this year. Our Technical Director, Peter Cheetham, gave three presentations on our behalf:

  • AS-Interface in the Food Industry, based on our experiences of installing ASi and ASi-Safe in a variety of food production factories
  • Doing It Right!, highlighting the importance of competence in the installation of an ASi network (poor installation leads to problems during commissioning and afterwards)
  • The closing presentation, a humorous look at some of the problems our customers have met with ASi and their solutions.

Peter’s slides can viewed at the AS-Interface Expert Alliance website.
